Special Education Pathway
Promote from an entry-level food services position to a supervisory position in which you oversee the operations of a school cafeteria.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 600 hours of related experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Passing of our District Proficiency Test
- Passing of our Instructional Assistance Test or 60 semester/90 quarter units
COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of instructional techniques as they relate to students with special needs
- Ability to work well with students, including those with special needs
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work through emergencies
- Willingness to Assist in feeding and toileting of students with special needs
- Sufficient strength to safely lift and carry objects or assist in lifting students of varying weights
REQUIREMENTS:
- One year of paid experience in an education program for children with disabilities and current status as a permanent Special Education Trainee.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Passing of our District Proficiency Test
- Passing of our Instructional Assistance Test or 60 semester/90 quarter units
- Twelve college semester units or 18 quarter units in courses directly related to the instruction, physical care, or well-being of children with disabilities.

- One year of paid experience assisting teachers in providing classroom instruction and in caring for the physical and social needs of students with disabilities OR One year of paid experience in an education program for children with disabilities and current
status as a permanent Special Education Assistant. - High School Diploma or equivalent
- Passing of our District Proficiency Test
- Passing of our Instructional Assistance Test or 60 semester/90 quarter units
- Twelve college semester units or 18 quarter units in courses directly related to the instruction, physical care, or well-being of children with disabilities.

- Knowledge of physical and emotional needs of students at various age levels, including those with special needs.
- Familiarity with oral suctioning, gastrostomy tube feeding, catheterization, tracheostomy suctioning, and ostomy
care - Ability to work well with students, including those with special needs
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work through emergencies
- Ability to operate a variety of medical equipment such as catheterization equipment, gastrostomy feeding
tubes, and oral suction machines
REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency supplemented by twelve semester units from a recognized college or university in child growth and development, sociology, psychology, health, education, or other courses directly related to the physical care or
psychology of children with disabilities. - Two years of paid experience in caring for the physical, mental, and emotional requirements of students with disabilities in a classroom, development center, or school.
